Welcome to Kahndog Publications website. Western Pennsylvania railroading is our specialty, and Kahndog offers you a monthly gallery of fallen flag pictures from the past. We hope that you enjoy the site’s archive galleries too, and will find our book offerings interesting, as well.

Current Projects include:

ENGINE FOR CHANGE Authored by Jack Polaritz with Beaver County historian Charles Townsend III, this book tells the story of the development of the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad in heavily-industrialized Beaver County, Pennsylvania, adjacent to Pittsburgh. Richly illustrated with photographs, maps and documents, the book traces the beginnings of the P&LE, and how important the Beaver community was to its beginnings and to its becoming “The Little Giant”. The book includes histories of the communities, various mills, railroad facilities and operations as they evolved on the P&LE in the county from 1874 to 1992. Publication of the projected 240 page book is planned for Fall, 2008.

MONONGHALEA RAILWAY MOTIVE POWER Authored by David Gratz and Jack Polaritz will present the locomotives that were owned by the Monongahela Railway and its predecessors from steam and diesel operations. Many never before seen action photographs will be included, in addition to drawings and documents from Mr. Gratz’s collection from his days as General Superintendent of the line. Publication of the planned 64 page book is scheduled for the Fall, 2008.

Kahndog has additional content about these main line railroads in our monthly photo galleries: the Baltimore & Ohio, Chessie System, CSX, the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central, New York Central, Conrail, Ohio Central, Western Maryland, Pittsburgh & West Virginia, Norfolk & Western, Norfolk Southern and Bessemer & Lake Erie, which served Western Pennsylvania.

Kahndog also contains information and photographs of steel mill railroads such as U. S. Steel's Union Railroad, J&L's Aliquippa & Southern and Monongahela Connecting Railroads, as well as a host of short line and other mill railroads.

Welcome to Kahndog.com. We hope you will find it both educational and enjoyable.
