
P&LE locomotive No. 212
One of a batch of steam locomotives obtained by the P&LE from the New York
Central in 1951, the H-10B No. 212 was scrapped in 1954. More information

P&LE work train at Pittsburgh
A familiar site along the P&LE during the late 1980s was this small work
train used to manicure the line after tracks had been removed for
scrapping, as the railroad was in the process of dismantling.

P&LE commuter train at Stoops Ferry, Pa.
A commuter train behind P&LE GP-7 No. 5684 rolls into Stoops Ferry Station
in route to College, Pa. The locomotive would see its number changed in
May, 1972 to No. 1525, and ultimately it would be sold and become Wabash
Valley No. 4102.

P&LE’s Gateway Yard aerial photo
Constructed by the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie in the late 1950s to replace its
cramped and inefficient East Youngstown Classification Yards, Gateway
Yards in Struthers, Ohio served the railroad until the line until it
ceased operation in 1992.

Moon Run Railroad passenger train schedule
A little over five-mile in length coal hauling line that served the
Pittsburgh Coal Company’s Moon Run Mine eventually was absorbed into the
Montour Railroad, which was also owned by the coal company.

P&LE K-5 No. 9235
Brand-spanking new Alco-built K-5A class Pacific passenger locomotive is
posed for a publicity picture taken at the P&LE’s Roundhouse No. 2 at
McKees Rocks. The locomotive would eventually be sold to another New York
Central Railroad subsidiary, being replace by a K-6 class Pacific from NYC
owned Boston & Albany Railroad.

A P&LE Monessen ore train headed by a Gilford-owned GP-38-2 passes the
Sheraton Hotel at Station Square, a tourism centered shopping complex
built at the site of the railroads former headquarters and passenger
terminal.
