
B&O No. 5660 4-8-2 locomotive
Baltimore & Ohio Railroad 4-8-2 Mountain locomotive No. 5660 seen here at
New Castle could be found on P&LE’s tracks between there and McKeesport,
Pa. It was often used on express-type service on trains that it pulled on
track age rights over the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie.

P&LE A-2A locomotive No. 9402
One of a class of seven Berkshires built for the P&LE by Alco in 1948, the
No.9402 is at the McKees Rocks, Pa. Locomotive service area still wearing
its white side-wall paint on its drivers from its company builders

Detroit Edison train at College, Pa.

locomotive tender for P&LE 9404
The tenders for P&LE’s last new steam locomotives, which were built in
1948 by the American Locomotive Company, saw their tenders having to be
produced at the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio. For more information

P&LE track gang
This picture was taken in the days before mechanization took over from
track gangs on the P&LE. Fifteen men are seen in this picture of a crew
repairing tracks after a locomotive derailment at College, Pa., and it’s
more like there were even more that didn’t get into the picture.

allow a lessened grade in approaching their Bridge No. 1 over the P&LE’s
railroad shops and yards.
